NorthLeft Designs

An Original Brand By Guinevere Stoessl

In 2014, at 13 years old, I created a Pacific Northwest-themed apparel company from scratch. Beginning with one idea inspired by my love for my home state, I drew an outline of Oregon and filled it with all things Oregonian. Convincing my dad to drive me to a local screen printer with only my idea and my 8 x 11 drawing, I created a small batch of t-shirts. My first transaction was in the hallway of my high school, paid in cash. Word of my business spread through classrooms, bleachers, and other schools, and soon I was out of shirts and filled with hope. Going back to the screen printer with my dad, this time with my profits, I created a second batch - and then a third, fourth, fifth - etc.

I was soon responsible for all aspects of my small business, including but not limited to designing, wholesale apparel purchasing, communicating with screen printers, photoshoots, inventory, shipping, website maintenance, customer service, marketing, etc.

Northleft Designs was my passion for four wonderful years. It expanded into being sold at my local mall, Salem Center, as well as local boutiques and gift shops all around town. When I was accepted into the San Diego States Fowler School of Business, I put this passion on hold and said goodbye to North Left Designs.

Today I remember NorthLeft Designs as a time in my life when I truly learned what business is - every aspect of what it takes to create one, run one, and grow one. Below is a collection of screenshots from the North Left Design website, highlighting my home page, the storefront, and a selection of products I created and sold.
