Creative Process:
Everything begins in my journal. Sketches, (Ink and pencil) color testing, sticky notes, and ideas.
My journals.
I make it a goal to write or sketch every day.
I also create a pinterest board before every collection to revisit, add to, and edit as the collection grows. This, along with my journal, is my foundation.
Mood Fabrics / Fabric District is also a priority before beginning concepts. I loved this silk chiffon.
Testing drape, transparency, and feel of everything before swatching it.
Italian tufted knit, found at Mood Fabrics. Used as inspo for the Parker Cardigan set.
Mother of Pearl shell buttons. Used as inspo for the mop star button in this collection.
Additionally I considered chunky, bold gold trims for a few pieces.
Color samples of the silk chiffon.
My personal tee, used as inspo for the Frankie's T-shirt graphic. I used photoshop to remove the Ojai text to use the front and back of this tee as the template.
So much of my Inspiration comes from vintage shopping and collecting. This is my favorite vintage / antique store in Oregon.
Most weekends I am out looking for ideas in antique shops, vintage shops, or the Rose Bowl flea. (I also collect vintage children's books, as the illustrations are incredible sources of inspo for graphics).
Trinkets by my desk, used as color inspo and trim inspo.
Final swatch selection picked up from Mood and DTLA
I am also grabbing Inspiration and Ideas from coffee table books and films. These next images are from American Photographer Dennis Stock, from his series/book California Trip - documenting the hippy counterculture of the 1960's
I will sometimes use procreate to clean up my hand sketches before transferring final designs to Adobe Illustrator, or just sketch for fun.
I will also occasionally take inspiration and create a story for collections through writing. This helps me imagine how the pieces look on the body, the mood, and how they may be used in marketing, ads, and social media.
